Musona wins Golden Boot in SA

Another top striker award in the bag for Knowledge Musona-2010-2011 Golden Boot winner!

Knowledge Musona scored his 15th goal of the 2010/2011 season in Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 win away at Amazulu in the ABSA Premier Soccer League's round of final matches in Durban to finish as the league's top goal scorer.

Musona has hit top form in the final six matches for his club, in which he scored five times to claim the best striker award that he badly needed in his first full season in South Africa's topflight soccer.

For much of the season, Musona was touted as a potential Footballer of the Season  winner, before a spate of injuries led to a dip in form mid-way in the season, allowing players like team mate Jimmy Tau and Thulani Serero to become front runners for the top award in the league.

The young Chiefs talisman resurrected his chances of winning the top scorer's award in the final ten matches of the season after recovering from various types of injuries.

Despite missing out on the premier individual award in local football, Musona has demonstrated his class in the league, in only his first full season, and it will not come as a surprise if he secures a contract with a good European team soon.

In winning the award, the Zimbabwean marksman managed to beat the serious challenge mounted by his fellow countryman and Warriors' strike partner Nyasha Mushekwi who scored a hatrick to equal Musona's 14th goal tally before Musona's magic saw him emerge the winner on the stroke of full time.

By the 81st minute in Mamelodi Sundowns' clash against Bloemfontein Celtic at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Mushekwi had already bagged in a hattrick, to bring his tally level with Musona's 14 goals. What a remarkable achievement for the Sundowns hotshot!

Musona had earlier also witnessed another contender for the award Lehlohonolo Majoro score his 14th goal in the match between Chiefs and Amazulu in Durban, to catch up with Musona.

Yet the wily Musona had other ideas on the day, and proved to be a real fighter. After having created Chiefs' first goal which was scored by Tau, Musona took matters into his own hands to score Chief's winner on the day, to emerge the top marksman in the land.

Musona will be the first to admit that he did not have it easy to go top of the scorers' charts. Thats why this award will be special to the youngman for a long time to come. Well done Smiling Assasin!

At only 20, Musona certainly has more awards in store for him. Many commentantors have adviced that the youngster should stay at Chiefs for one more year to develop his talent and establish himself in the game.

But that depends on the opportunities which come his way. Some opportunities are note easy to postpone. Besides, at 20, Musona is at a prime stage to make it big in football.

Some might even argue, now is the time for Musona to show the world what he is made of.
