Sundowns join race to sign Sithole

There are revelations that South Africa's richest club Mamelodi Sundowns have joined the race to win the signature of CAPS United hottest property, striker Simba Sithole.

Sithole returned to the CAPS fold from a trial period with KZN-based topflight soccer club Maritzburg United, where he spent a week under the watchful eye of coach Ian Palmer, wjho recently played King-maker in the ABSA PSL's title race.

Under 23 striker Sithole, featured in the match against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, and guess who was in the stands watching the boy harrassing the Bosso defence in the first half?

Trott Moloto, Sundowns' Director of recruitment and Chief Scout was in the stands at BF taking a keen interest on the performance of the youngster, who failed to score against Bosso, despite playing fairly well in the first half.

His team CAPS succumbed to 0-1 loss in the last minute of the match.

Moloto told the Herald after the match that heha been impressed by the performance of the young man, but will need to have another look at the player in action.

Well, that chance will come very soon. Sithole and his all-conquering band of Young Warriors (Under 23) team mates, will be in South Africa in June to play the Amaglu-glug in the crunchy final qualifying match for the All-Africa Games (Maputo 2011) to be staged in Mozambique.

With all attention likely to be on Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat who are ear-marked for the tie against the South Africa Under 23 team in the two legs of the All-Africa games qualifier, Sithole is likely to prove the real danger to South Africa.

If Sundowns really want the striker, it will be advisable that they wrap-up his signature before the player features in the two matches against South Africa. There are other vultures like Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax who look set to pounce on the talented Zimbabwean striker.

Given the healthy twining agreement between CAPS and Sundowns, the Pretoria side is likely to have first option on the player, if it boils down to real competition.
