Serero wins big on PSL Awards night

Ajax Amsterdam-bound star player Thulani Serero scooped about four awards during the PSL Annual awards night held at Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City last night.

Serero had been nominated in about five categories, and managed to win four of the five categories. It was a befitting reward somehow for the way the Ajax Cape Town boy illuminated the season especially at a time when clear favourite from the beginning of the season, Knowledge Musona of Kaizer Chiefs lost form mid-way into the season.

The youngster claimed the main individual award of ABSA PSL Player of the Season, then the ABSA Players' Player of the Season award, the ABSA Red-hot Young Player of the Season award, and PSL Footballer of the Year award.

Amakhosi's Musona who walked away with the 2nd richest individual award, the Telkom Player of the Tournament award which carried prize money of R200 000. Musona also won the Golden Boot award.

Champions Orlando Pirates provided more individuals  on the wards list. Coach Ruud Krol deservedly won Coach of the Year award for leading Bucs to a trebble this season.

Key player in the Bucs squad, Andile Jali, whom many expected to win Players' Player of the Season award, was nominated in an incredible six categories, and only won one award, that of the Nedbank Player of the Tournament award.
