AFCON 2012 Results: Uganda closer to 2012 qualification

UGANDA's Cranes moved closer to a dream qualification at the enxt Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualification, what will be their first in 33 years, after defeating Guinea Bissau 2-0 at home during a Group J match played at the Mandela Stadium on Saturday.

The home team, the Cranes acored first through new boy Godfrey Walusimbi, whose purposed cross in the 36th minute somehow ended up beating the visitors keeper, giving the Cranes a 1-0 lead.

There is a no ugly or bad goal in football, as long as it gives a team an edge over opponents. Walusimbi certainly savoured his great moment on his debut for his country.

Egypt-based striker Geoffrey Massa warpped up the match on the 57th minute after latching onto Scotlalnd-based David Obua's flicked header, to give Uganda a 2-0 lead.

Bobby Williamson's Cranes shot to 10 points in Group J and as it stands, they stand at a massive 6-points away from second-placed team Kenya, who have a tricky away assignment in Luanda against Angola on Sunday.

With two matches remaining, Uganda look a sure bet to join Botswana, who have already qualfied for the finals in 2012, and finished their campaign on top of Group K following a 0-0 draw with Malawi at home.

Next Uganda will travel to Angola for a battle with bottom nation, before wapping up the campaign with a home fixture against neighbours and second-placed Kenya.

Bissau are second from bottom with three points, and lead Angola only goal difference.
