Russia Premier League clubTereky Grozny has demanded three points in the club's next league match against Perm, or the former World Footballer of the Year Ruud Gullit faces dismissal from the struggling club.
Grozny currently lies on 14th position on a 16 team league, and the club President Ramzan Kadyrov announced on Monday that the Dutch soccer legend has so far not met the expectations of the club on the field of play and that he will get one last chance.
"Today, we must acknowledge that Gullit has not satisifed the expectations of the club's board," the President announced in a statement on the club's website.
"Ruud Gullit has to come back with the three points. Anything else and he will be relieved of his duties as coach," added Kadyrov.
Gullit is one of the best players the world has ever produced. He was one of the star-studded AC Milan team which won European titles between 1989 and 1990. He also won the European championship with the Netherlands in 1988.
On the coaching front, the soccer legend has not met with considerable success.
He has coached English Premiership sides Chelsea and Newcastle, and has also had a sstint as Los Angeles Galaxy of the Major League Soccer in the USA, and has not yet achieved anything major in his coaching career.
Terek Grozny is from Grozny, a wealthy part of the province of Chechnya. The club was formed in 1958 but its participation in Russia's topflight soccer league has been interrupted by war in Chechnya at some point.
The club was hoping for at least a top 10 finish this year, having completed last season in 12th position.
When Gullit arrived, he made his intention of leading the club to a Europa qualification at the very least, and the team's current 14th place is far cry from Gullit's projections at the beginning of the season.
Terek Grozny is home to one African soccer player, Musawenkosi Mguni from Zimbabwe. |
