Billiat, Rusike join Young Warriors' camp

Billiat and Rusike have joined the Young Warriors (U"23) squad

The talented pair of Ajax Cape Town's in-form attacking midfielder Khama Billiat and team mate Tafadzwa Rusike has joined the Zimbabwe Under 23 squad, currently preparing for the epic clash in the All Africa Games final qualifier on 26 June against South Africa.

The duo arrived at the camp venue on Tuesday and went through pcases with the rest of the squad members who were already part of the camp.

Billiat and Rusike's arrival, and the return of star attacking midfielder Archieford Gutu is great news to caoch Friday Phiri who was recently stung by Kaizer Chiefs' flat refusal to release ABSA Premiership Golden Boot winner Knowledge Musona.

The Soweto giants argued that they needed to have a closer look at the player, and take him through medical check-ups before the Vodacom Challenge, which serves as a season opener in South Africa.

There is little that Zimbabwe can do to force Chiefs to release Musona for the tie against South Africa's Under 23 team, since the All Africa Games do not fall on FIFA calendar days.

Ovidy Karuru of US Bolougne in France has also been excused from the Under 23 squad due to commitments in France, where he had to return immediately after his storming performance against Mali at Rufaro two weeks ago.

Despite the absence of Musona, Karuru and the suspended Denver Mukamba, the Young Warriors remain a formiddable squad.

The team will boast about 5 players attached to foreign clubs, mainly in South Africa's topflight league. There is Simba Sithole who has just joined Mamelodi Sundowns, Billiat and Rusike of Ajax Cape Town, Matthew Rusike of Jomo Cosmos and Trevor Mutero of Reading FC of England.

Qadr Amini could possibly join Orlando Pirates next month, and by the tie of the second leg, the numnber of foreign-based players in the squad would have increased to six.

Some few players are yet to report for the camp such the Bulawayo trio of Misheck Mburayi Ariel Sibanda and Joel Ngodzo who lost his grandmother recently. Sithole is also yet to arrive from Pretoria, while Matthew Rusike is expected from England only on Friday.

Here is the 27-member Young Warriors' squad to face Amaglu-glug
