Karuru to feature for U"23 against SA?

Zimbabweans are praying and hoping that Warriors star midfielder Ovidy Karuru will be given the greenlight to feature for the Under 23 team in the Zone VI All Africa Games final qualifier against the Amaglu-glug of South Africa on the 25th June.

It has turned out that a possibility exists that Karuru, star of the show that saw the senior national soccer team overcome Mali two weeks at Rufaro Stadium, could turn for the Young Warriors in South Africa next week.

Apparently South Africa have moved the clash between probably two of the most talented sets of young soccer players in the SADC region, from the original date, the 26th to the 25th June. That scenario has seen the possibility of Karuru featuring for his motherland.

“I have been informed the game has been moved to Saturday so there is a big chance that he (Karuru) will be available for the match,” revealed U'23 Team Manager Wellington Mpandare.

“He was set to report for pre-season training at his club on the 26th, the same day we were supposed to play South Africa but now the game is on Saturday we are arranging that he plays, and then connects straight to France immediately after the game.

“I have contacted his team so that they can give us permission. I have also contacted the player and he has shown interest in taking part. It becomes easy when the player is also willing to play,” Mpandare added.

The addition of Karuru will bring the total number of players in the Young Warriors squad from faoreign teams to about 7, given the fact that Qadr Amini will be sealing a move to Orlando Pirates in a matter of weeks.

The Zim squad welcomed Simba Sithole back from Pretoria where he had travellened to seal his 5-year deal with the ABSA Premiership's richest club, Mamelodi Sundowns.

There is hope in Zimbabwe that this class of the Young Warriors will qualify for the Maputo Games to be staged in September, and will go as far as winning gold by winning the final match.

Before such hopes can be entertained, the talented Young Warriors should successfully negotiate their way past an equally gifted Amaglu-glug team, which boasts of raw talent such as Andile Jali, Thulani Serero and Bongani Ndulula.

Good news for the Young Warriors is that Serero, recently crowned PSL Footballer of the Year is not availbale for the 25th June tie. Zim on the other hand are fretting over the non-availability of Knowledge Musona whom Kaizer Chiefs has refused to release.
