Zim Under 23 final squad for SA

Archie Gutu, the Zim U"23 playmaker is back to torment Amaglu-glug

The Zimbabwe Under 23 soccer team's technical team led by coach Friday Phiri announced the final 18 members of the squad that will battle for a place at the All Africa Games, Maputo.

The team left Harare on a Thursday for a date with South Africa's Amaglu-glug, fresh from a morale-boosting 5-1 demolishing of Benin in a London 2012 Olmpics Games qualifier, to successfully overturn a 1-3 deficit from the first leg played away.

Young Warriors' team was boosted by the return to fitness of skipper Qadr Amin, rumoured to be on his way to Orlando Pirates. The captain has spent the week doing light training, and missed Gunners' last two matches due to injury.

The team, despite having failed to get Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona and Ovidy Karuru released by their clubs, still boasts the presence of red-hot foreign-based and local stars.

Players like Tafadzwa Rusike of Ajax Cape Town in South Africa, Archieford Gutu who returned from trials in Bulgaria recently, will mark a return to the Young Warriors side at Sinaba Stadium in Johannesburg tomorrow.

Also in the team are Matthew Rusike of Jomo Cosmos and Trevor Mutero of Reading FC in the United Kingdom.

In strike force, apart from Matthew, the team has the potent talent of Simba Sithole,  Mamelodi Sundowns' new recruit and the current leading goal scorer in both the Zimbabwean Castle Lager PSL and the All Africa Games qualifier in which he has scored 10 and 5 goals respectively.

Young Warriors coach Phiri watched South Africa v Benin and spyed on his opponents tomorrow. He certainly knows what to expect from the home team players.

The squad

Goalkeepers: Ariel Sibanda, Liberty Chirava

Defenders: Lincoln Zvasiya, Qadr Amini, Obey Mwerahari, Knowledge Machona, Morris Kadzola

Midfielders: Joel Ngodzo, Abbas Amidu, Devon Chafa, Timire Mamvura, Archford Gutu, Russel Madamombe, Tafadzwa Rusike, Trevor Mutero

Strikers: Simba Sithole, Mathew Rusike, Ngonidzashe Maviri
