Billiat,Fanteni lead Ajax"s MTN rout of Supersport

Two players who contributed much to Ajax Cape Town's near title-grabbing act only to lose it on the last day last season, Terror Fanteni and Khama Billiat picked up from where they left off last season as they tormented Supersport, scoring a brace each as the Urban Warriors beat the former champions 5-2 in an MTN Super8 first quarter-final at Cape Town Stadium in Friday' night.

A match of two halves saw the home side, Ajax, threatening to overrun the Pretoria-based side, as they quickly raced to a 3-0 lead in the First Half.

Terror Fanteni scored the opening goal for the Urban Warriors as early as the 9th minute, after his 4th minute strike was ruled off-side by referee Robert Sithole.

The former player of Israeli top club Maccabi Haifa, Fanteni, cut in from the left flank, and beat Rowen Fernandez with a hard low shot to the far right of the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

As pressure mounted on Supersport United, with the former champions appearing lost at the back, Clayton Daniels received a pass  in the box, held off opponents beautifully before teeing-off young Billiat. And what a finish Billiat responded with!

The young Zimbabwean showed great composure, superbly placing a side footer to Fernandez's far right with the precision of a veteran of many years in the game. Ajax were 2-0 up.

While Supersport appeared to enjoy seeing much of the ball, Ajax played more meaningful and more purposeful football, and it was little wonder when debutant  Sici Shelembe was at the end of an Ajax counter attack, beating the experienced defensive pair of Nasief Morris and Morgan Gould for pace and skill, before planting  a dipping shot beyond Fernandez's reach.

Supersport were a much rejuvinated lot in the second half, and they fought back like true former champions.

The introduction of Jabu Maluleke late in the first half and len Salmon in the 46th minute saw the tide temorarily turning in favour of Amatsatsantsa.

Using pace, size and height of men like Salmon and Mame Niang, Superspsort held onto the ball beautifully, and really started to impose their authority in the match. They pulled two back in less than 20 minutes.

Their first goal came from hard-working Thandani Ntshumayelo, who was helped by a forced Daniels error to register his first goal in the 2011/2012 season in the 54th minute.

Maluleleke was to add a beauty, and United's second goal in the 72nd minute from a free-kick after Niagng was brought down by the Ajax defence on the edge of the box.

All hopes of a dramatic comeback were put to rest by a Billiat whose skill and pace troubled United on a chilly Friday night in the Mother city. The Zimbabwe Warriors player first respnded with a thunderous shot from the right which Fernandez brilliantly parried away in the 63rd minute.

Billiat was to returned to frustrate the boys from Pretoria when he used his pace and skill to roast Davis Nkausu on the left side of United'sbox, resulting in the Zambian international being forced to illegally bring down Billiat, and Sithole pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Ajax penalty specialist Fanteni to send Fernandez the wrong way. It was Ajax 4- 2 Supersport at that stage.

Billiat then combined brilliantly with substitute Lebogang Manyama, who unselfishly released Billiat on the right, and the young Zimbabwean cooly slotted into the empty net after Fernandez had been pulled in as he attempted to close down the Ajax attack, to complete a 5-2 rout.

Ajax proceed to the semi-finals of the MTN Super8, and the semi-finals draw will be held on Monday.

In other quarterfinal matches on Saturday, defending champions Orlando Pirates meet Santos at Orlando Stadium at 20h15, while Mamelodi Sundowns will entertain Bloemfontein Celtic at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the afternoon. Kick-Off is 15h00.

Sunday will see Kaizer Chiefs battle it out with Roger De Sa's Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium.
