Lincoln Zvasiya joins Chiefs

Zimbabwe's Under 23 and Warriors' young central defender Lincoln Zvasiya is the latest foreign player to join a big South African ABSA premiership club after signing a three year deal with Kaizer Chiefs.

Zvasiya moves from Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders FC Platinum.

Chiefs' website has announced the arrival of both Zvasiya and compatriot Willard Katsande who completed his move on Monday.

"We signed both players with the future in mind. Both players are already full internationals with Zimbabwe," Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung told the club's website.

"Lincoln Zvasiya (20) comes from the Aces Academy that produced Knowledge Musona. We have a good relations with Aces, and when we were looking for a centre back, they recommended Lincoln. He came through for a trial and we were happy with what we saw.

"He (Zvasiya) is a future prospect for the club," Motaung added.

Zvasiya has been training with the club for the past 10 days, but Katsande joined his new team mates only on Monday.

Lincoln looks certainly like a the future roack upon which the Warriors defence will be built for the next five to eight years. It si good that Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has already begun showing confidence in the player by calling him for senior national duty.

The future of the Warriors augurs well with bright prospects, all under 23 years of age, such as Musona, Zvasiya, Qadr Amin, Ovidy Karuru, Khama Billiat, Tafadzwa Rusike and Simba Sithole all being active members of the Warriors team.

Other fairly young members of the Warriors include Nyasha Mushekwi (23) turning 24 this August, Katsande (25), Gilbert Mapemba (26).

The oldest member of the Warriors squad is 30 year old central defender Thomas Sweswe whose experience is badly needed by the relatively young squad.

The rest of the squad members are between 27 and 28, and will definitely be arund for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
