Mikel"s father"s abductors make contact

England premiership club Chelsea footballer John Mikel Obi's father, Mickael Obi has not been seen by his family since last week Friday, and now his abductors have made contact with the family and are making demands for his ransom.

The BBC Sport reports that the abductors have made a ransom demand of 20 million naira (approximately  80,000) to secure Obi senior's release.

John Mikel Obi's agents, SEM Group have however denied that the figure is as reported in the media or claimed by the police.

"A sizeable demand has been made but, for security reasons, we are unable to release details of the amount," the company said in a statement.

"We confirm that Michael Obi has been abducted and that the kidnappers have been in touch with the family and representatives of the family and that discussions for Michael's safe release have begun," the statement said further.

"Mikel would like to thank his family, friends, Chelsea FC and his agents for their support and, at this time, it is Mikel's intention to play for Chelsea this weekend, encouraged by his family to do so."

In the past days the abductors have called to make ransom demands and at sme point directed the family to where Michael's car is. The car has since been recovered in Jos as per the aabductors' directions.

John played for Chelsea in a 0-0 draw against Stoke City over the weekend despite the disturbing news about his father's disappearance, having been encouraged by family to fulfill his club duties.

John Mikel is reportedly seriously affected by the sad developments.

Mikel has made a passionate appeal to the nation of Nigeria to assist him if they know the whereabouts of his father.

"I've always tried to help the country. This is the time for the country to help me," Mikel said on Monday.

"Whoever knows where my dad is should please contact me."
