Chiefs, Pirates set up MTN final at FNB

Kaizer Chiefs beat Ajax Cape Town on an away goals' rule following a 1-1 draw against the Urban Warriors at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night, while arch-rivals Orlando Pirates pipped Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 to reach the final.

The two victories by the SOWETO giants makes for an intriguing battle of the Soweto giants in the MTN Super8 Cup final, which will be played at the FNB Stadium, the sponsors and the PSL resolved in Sunday.

At the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night, Amakhosi held onto the 1-1 draw with Ajax to progress to the final on an away goal's rule following the 0-0 draw at the FNB Stadium in the first leg of the semi-final.

Chiefs' Josta Dladla ensured pressure was on Ajax with the first goal of the match, when he headed unmarked in the box a Bernard Parker cross in the 65th minute.

Lebohang Manyama was to set up Tembinkosi "Terror" Fanteni to level the scores 1-1 in the 75th minute to set the match for an explsoive finish. Chiefs had to weather the Ajax storm in the last 10 minutes to book a place in the final.

It was a painful exit from the tournament for the youthful Urban Warriors side that had battled so well to end the two legs 1-1 on aggregate.

Chiefs won the match from the bench, as Vladimir Vermozvic's razor sharp strategy appears to work better than Maarten Stekelenberg's.

VV had a clear strategy, and that involved ensuring that Ajax did not attack from the wings, especially the right wing from where Khama Billiat had terrorised the Chief defence in the first leg.

And Stekelenberg played into Chiefs' strategy by instructing Billiat to keep on the touch line. With VV's strategy having been centered around completely shutting out Billiat, Ajax failed to play, as the Ajax magician was under lock and key from the Chiefs defence and midfield.
