On-fire Temwajira leads Vaslui into Europa

Goal poacher Mike Temwanjira aiming for goal. He is in great form in Romania

Zimbabwean-born Mike Temwanjira is on fire in Romania, guiding his Liga club FC Vaslui into the respected Europa League with memorable goals, and finds himself competing for the Golden Boot in the Liga early into the season.

"Mbozha", as Temwanjira was known by the legion of CAPS United fans when he turned out for the Harare giants, has been dogged by injuries in the past two seasons which have restricted his impact at Vaslui, one of the giant clubs in the European country.

FC Vaslui had to content playing in the UEFA's second best club cup competition after failing to proceed to the group stages of the Champions League draw, after they were eliminated along the way by Dutch side FC Twente.

Mbozha's club managed to negotiate their way into the Europa League, the equivalent of CAF's Confederation Cup, by beating Sparta Praha 2-1 on aggregate in the play-off games, with Temwanjira scoring in the 2-0 home victory on the 18th August 2011.

The former CAPS forward has also been banging the goals in the opening six games of the Romanian Liga, and currently sits just two goals away from the leading goal scorer, as he has so far managed 3 goals in the six games played in the league.

Of the last eight goals scored by Vaslui in the Europa and Liga in Romania, Mbozha has scored exactly half of those goals, and is Vaslui's main player and leading goal scorer this season. He scored in his club's victories against Praha, Braşov, Dinamo Bucureşti and the defeat to Ceahlăul Piatr Neamţ.

Temwanjira is due to help Vaslui in the Europa League. In the draw conducted by UEFA on the 8th September, FC Vaslui was picked first, as top seeds in  Group D.

In Group D, Mbozha's team will compete for a place in the last 16 with the likes of Lazio of Italy, FC Zurich of Switzerland and Sporting of Portugal.

Potential qualifiers for the last 16 round are established European giants such as PSV Eindhoven of Netherlands/Holland, Rubin Kazan of Russia, Tottenham Hotspurs of England, Bundesliga giants Schalke 04, Atletico Madrid of Spanish La Liga, Besiktas of Turkey and Paris Saint Germain of France.

Playing in the tough and competitive European competitions like the UEFA Champions League and Europa League should prepare Temwanjira for Zimbabwe's 2014 World Cup qualifiers, should Norman Mapeza decide to give the in-form big striker a call.

Zimbabwe needs to make use of all the available resources at its disposal, if the Warriors are to mount a real challenge against the likes of the physical and imposing Egyptians and Guineans.

Standing at 1.88m tall, and weighing 88 kilograms, Temanjira is the kind of strikers that the Warriors need to field in the World Cup qualifiers to give Zimbabwe a chance to qualify for their first ever World Cup finals.
