Legia Warsaw key defender and Zimbabwe Warriors defender Dickson Choto is rumoured to be on the radar of a topflight Turkey club Fenerbahce Sports Club.
The Fenerbahce Worldwide reported on its online edition last month that Choto was second on the wanted list of the Turkish giants. Topping that list at the time was Milo Krasić, a talented Serbian midfielder who is currently on the books of CSKA Moscow of Russia. The 25-year old star has also attracted the interest of other clubs like Juventus of Italy and Manchester City of England.
The 29 year-old Zimbabwean international Choto has been a key defender for Legia Warsaw, for whom he has played more than 126 matches since 2003. His career has been somehow affected by a spate of injuries over the years, but the giant defender has been a loyal servant of Legia Warsaw. He is blessed with the ability to read the game very well. He is the kind of a defender with beautiful passes and can help his team to build up an attacking movement right from defence.
The Turkish media has also been awash with reports linking Fenerbahce with a good number of other soccer stars who are currently playing for notable European teams. Apart from Krasic, Asamoah Gyan of Rennes in France who shone brightly for Ghana during the World Cup in South Africa has been linked with last season's runners-up of the Turkeycell league. Guillaume Hoarau of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City's star Robinho (on loan at Santos of Brazil) have also been linked with Fenerbahce.
A move to a team which will compete in the Champions League in the 2010/2011 season will come as good news to Choto and Zimbabwe Warriors coach Norman Mapeza. With Zimbabwe's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign set to commence in September this year, having players who compete at the highest level in Europe will be good for Zimbabwe's chances of qualifying for Equatorial Guinea in 2010. Zimbabwe is in a qualifying group which includes Mali, Cape Verde and Liberia.
Choto is also rumourred to have attracted the interest of other suitors whose identities remain unclear. |
