Experienced stars return for Warriors

Musona is back for the Warriors" final match against Cape Verde in Praia on October 8

Zimbabwe announced a squad that sees the return of four key players including their top goal scorer Knowledge Musona for the final and crucial Africa Nations Cup 2012 qualifeir against Cape Verde in Praia on October 8.

The Germany club TSG Hoffenheim striker missed the penultimate qualifier against Liberia on September 4 due to an injury which also sidelined for Hoffenheim's three games before last weekend's fixture.

On Saturday the former Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa's Golden Bot winner last season, demonstrated his return to fitness when he was introduced as a second half substitute, and set up Hoffenheim's third goal scored by Roberto Firmino in a 3-1 victory against Vfl Wolfsburg.

The Hoffenheim striker had scored all of Zimbabwe's three goals in the Afcon qualifiers before the 3-0 victory over Liberia, a match which he missed.

The Smiling Assasin is a key player for the Warriors not only for goals, but also for his ability to take on defenders and to create scoring opportuinities for team mates.

Musona's strike partner Nyasha Mushekwi of Mamelodi Sundowns has also been included in the squad after he and Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe missed the Liberia match due to suspensions.

Zhainu Jambo also of Chiefs returns to the national fold after missing much of the qualifiers due to having fallen down the pecking order due to his club inactivity. Now that has changed as Jambo now commands regular appearance for Amakhosi.

Inspirational France-based midfielder Ovidy Karuru is in the squad, despite revelations that he injured himself at training during last week.

Karuru has stood out to be counted in the Warriors squad and judging by performances of players in the last two qualifiers, he is catapulted himself to the level where it can be argued that he has been more influential than any other player in the national team.

Denmark-based attacking midfielder Quincy Antipas has been excluded after he suffered injury during the Liberia game. While there could be replacements for Antipas, his pace and workrate will be sorely missed in Praia.
