Temwanjira deserves Warriors' call

[Posted 20 Sep 2011]

Time has come for Mike Temwanjira to be given a chance to represpent his country of birth

FC Vaslui chief striker Mike "Mbozha" Temwanjira has done enough at his Romania Liga club since the beginning of the season and in the Europa League to deserve inclusion in the national soccer team, the Warriors.

Temwanjira was a notable absentee in Norman Mapeza's Warriors' squad named yesterday for the cricial final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away at Cape Verde in Praia on October 8.

Mbozha has been making headlines in Romania's topflight league, deemed to be Europe's seventh best soccer league just two years ago.

The former CAPS United player is Vaslui's top goal scorer so far, having scored four of the eight goals that the club has scored in the league and Europa League qualifiers.

In the league, Temwanjira has scored three goals, and is one of the early contenders for the Golden Boot award in Romania. He is just two goals away from the current top goal scorer on the scorers' charts.

Mbozha has scored once in the Europa league. On Thursday galant Vaslui travelled to Italy where they held Serie A side Lazio to a 2-2 draw, with Temwanjira earning Vaslui a 63rd minute penalty which gave the Romanians a 2-1 lead before Lazio equalised in the 71st minute.

Given his Europa League experience and his current form, Temwanjira deserved a call to the national team to make his contribution to the Warriors' quest to qualify for the Afcon finals in 2012.

Maybe Mapeza decided to avoid tampering with a winning team, but Mbozha definitely deserves a cll up for the forth coming FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers set to commence in June 2012.

Given Temwanjira's strength, experience and eye for goal, he will make a huge difference to Zimbabwe's quest for their first ever World Cup qualification.
