Homela back home, at Saints

Homela back home, at Saints

Former Zimbabwe topflight soccer powerhouse, Zimbabwe Saiants have made a bold statement of attempting to avoid the chop in the Castle Lager Premiership at the end of the season by roping in former coach and CAF Instructor Gibson Homela as Technical advisor.

Chikwata are currently bottom of the 16-team league and are staring the dreaded relegation if someone does not wave a magic hand to lift them from the murky waters of the chop, and they believe former coach Homela is the man to help Ephraim Chawanda do that.

Saints will face title dreamers Chicken Inn in a Bulwayo derby that promises fireworks at White City on Saturday on Sunday.

Bouyed by a morale boosting Mbada Diamonds Cup first round 6-5 penalty victory over bitter derby rivals Highlanders last week at Hwange's Colliery Stadium, Saints hope to translate that cup form to league matches.

Saints lost their last league match away to Dynamos, crashing to a 4-0 defeat and dropping to the bottom of the log, and with only seven matches left in the PSL season, the Sunday derby is a must win.

Homela confirmed having joined Saints.

“Yes, I must assist. I said I would not mind. The role is as technical adviser. I will not have the final say, but the coaches will as they are already in the system.

"What it means is I can sit down with the coaches and plan. With the position that we are in at the moment, we can then have a crash course, or Caesarean Section if ever there is a term like that in football. But this is just voluntary,” Homela said.
