Castle Lager PSL title challengers in tricky ties

[Posted 29 Sep 2011]

Charles Sibanda will look to inspire FC Platinum to collect maximum points against Blue Ribbon

Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title chasing clubs, FC Platinum, Motor Action, Dynamos and Highlanders face tricky opponents, all but one away from home over the weekend.

Two clubs who share top spot, FC Platinum and the Mighty Bulls, are away to Blue Ribbon in Harare and CAPS United respectively.

Motor Action who are ahead of the platinum miners by just a single goal, face tricky customers in CAPS United. Makepekepe's buble was burst by bitter rivals Dynamos in the Mbada Diamonds Cup only last weekend and are itching to bounce back.

Losing points to the Mighty Bulls will place coach Lloyd Chitembwe's job in jeopardy, and the Green Machine are likely to come out of the National Sports Stadium on Sunday with a point or three. That outcome will never be good news to Joey Antipas's title aspirations.

The Bulls need nothing short of a victory at this stage of the competition.

Rahman Gumbo's Platinum will, like the Bulls, seek to return from Harare with maximum points. Blue Ribbon, though newcomers this season, are a very unpredictable side which can cause an upset on any given day.

Dynamos, a point behind the two pacesetters, know very well that facing Monomotapa at this stage of the competition will provide them with a serious headache. Monoz are experienced fighters who always pick form towards the end of the season, and will give Dembare a good run for their money on Sunday.

Highlanders will travel to Harare to face the police team Black Mambas who are desperate to avoid dropping into the relegation zone. Sitting on 25 points and in position 12, when the bottom club Zimbabwe Saints has 20 points, Mambas can smell danger.

The police club will come with guns blazing against Bosso on Saturday at the Morris Depot.

The fierce battles for either the championship or to avoid relegation will only mean one thing for soccer-crazy Zimbabweans this weekend, a rich soccer diet from Saturday to Sunday.
