Chinyama scores against Paris St Germain

Chinyama has fully recovered and is scoring goals again

Zimbabwe international striker Takesure Chinyama scored an equalising goal for Polish giants Legia Warsaw in France on Friday last week. The goal ensured that Legia finished the pre-season friendly match tied with the home team at 2-2.

Chinyama showed real predator instincts when he pounced on a loose ball inside the box, created space amid challenge from two PSG defenders  and scored a brilliant goal with his weaker left foot in the 87th minute to send his team mates into a delirium.

Legia Warsaw are in France for a pre-season camp. The speedy and aggressive Chinyama was only introduced to the match in the 73rd minute. Fourteen minutes later, he found the equalising goal for Legia, who played a much improved match following their lacklustre performance in their 1-4 loss to Bordeaux earlier last week.

Goals only arrived in this match after the 75th minute when Hoarau drew first blood for the home team. PSG took a 2-0 lead in the 80th minute following a strike from their second half substitute Kezman.

Legia then rallied from behind through goals by Gyro who scored only a minute after coming on as an 81st minute substitute. Chinyama, another second half subsitute for Legia, then made sure that the Polish giants finished the match with a share of the spoils.

Yesterday, Legia lost 0-1 to another French team Rennes in one of the many friendly matches the Legions have lined up as the coach fine-tunes his squad for the beginning of the 2010/2011 season in Poland. Legia's forth-coming friendlies include a match with yet another  Ligue 1 team Lorient on 31 July. This match will be followed by what appears like the final warm-up match against Arsenal in Poland on the 7th of August.

Chinyama endured a frustrating 2009/2010 season as injuries limited his appearances to only seven matches, yielding a paltry 2 goals for the whole season. This is in stark contrast to the last two seasons when the former Monomotapa and Hwange Football clubs striker was in such sparkling form that he attracted interest from some Bundesliga clubs in Germany.

In 2007/2008 Chinyama illuminated the Ekstraklasa with 15 goals, and emerged as one of the top goal scorers in that league. He was clearly his club Legia's top goal scorer. The best of Chinyama was to come in the 2008/2009 season, when the Zimbabwean hitman emerged as a joint Golden Boot winner in the Ekstraklasa with a rich harvest of 19 league goals. Then the injury followed early on in the next season which interrupted the player's rich vein of form for two consecutive years.

Chinyama showed the kind of hunger for goals against PSG that will put a smile on every soccer-loving Zimbabwean. If he continues his goal scoring form, he could force his way into Norman Mapeza's squad for Zimbabwe's opening Group A of the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifying match away to the Lone Star of Liberia in Monrovia on the weekend of 3-5 September.

Chinyama was frustrated by Valinhos who called the player while he was in red-hot form in Poland during the last Nations Cup qualifiers, but never gave the striker a chance to show what he could offer. All this was despite the fact the Warriors fired blanks in four matches which led to their failure to qualify for Angola 2010.
