UGANDA: Bobby gives Uganda's young stars a chance ahead of Morroco invitational match

UGANDA: Bobby gives Uganda

David Obua, Nestroy Kizito and Cranes skipper Ibrahim Sekagya are unsurprisingly missing in Bobby Williamson’s 21-man squad to participate in the four-nation invitational tournament in Morocco but the Scot insists the named side is intended at giving youngsters a chance.

While the coach insisted Obua’s situation is self explanatory as the forward ruled himself out of Cranes contention after he was suspended for alleged indiscipline prior to the Uganda–Kenya Nations Cup qualifier, he was in touch with Kizito and Sekagya told him they are concentrating on club duties for now.

The duo hinted on retirement after the October 8 disappointment but have not formally confirmed anything to that effect.

After announcing the team that will participate in the tourney involving Cameroon, Uganda, Sudan and hosts Morocco from November 11-13, Bobby said the competition will be used to prepare for Cecafa that kicks off late next month on 24th in Dar es Salaam and to give youngsters an inevitable chance. "It’s the perfect preparation for Cecafa and an opportunity to try out other players," Bobby yesterday

"A few professionals have been called and I have sent them emails to that effect. This is not conclusive. More players could be added or could be dropped." But while Bobby, after the 2012 failed Afcon campaign, told us he would use Cecafa to test more of the home-based actors and youngsters, he has summoned only six players who ply their club football locally.

Only Yanga striker Hamis ’Diego’ Kiiza, Proline’s Henry Kalungi and Simba’s (Tanzania) Emma Okwi, the new faces in the summoned side, were not part of the team that prepared for Kenya over a week ago.

URA’s Steven Bengo, Bunnamwaya’s Owen Kasule and Vasco da Gama’s Geoffrey Sserunkuma miss out and only foreign custodians Dennis Onyango and Abel Dhaira have been considered.

Strongly involved in the Africa Nations Championships (Chan) and youth competitions, St George’s Sula Matovu and Sai Gon XT’s Saddam Juma are also conspicuously absent.

"As I said, I cannot call everyone," explained Bobby.

"Sula and Saddam are very much in my plans, same as Owen. These will feature in Cecafa."

Foreign-based stars will link up with the rest of the contingent in Morocco and the team will train for two days at Namboole before leaving for North Africa on November 9.
