Mguni back in form in Russia"s topflight

Forgotten Zimbabwean-born marksman Musawenkosi Mguni has now become Russian Premier League side Terek Grozny's main striker after struggling earlier with injuries and the challenges of adjusting to a new league. He has now cemented a starting berth and goals have begun flowing.

Over the weekend, the former Metalurh Donetsk hitman scored in Terek Grozny's final league match 's 2-0 victory over seventh-placed Kuban' Krasnodar at the Akhmat-Khadi Kadyrova  stadium in Grozny.

Mguni scored Terek Grozny's second goal in the 88th minute after Alexander Pavlenko, Grozny's Ukraine-born Russian striker had given the home team the lead in the 69th minute.

The 28-year old 1.90 meters tall Zimbabwean striker has been showing hunger and fighting spirit in the last half of the Russian league and has been rewarded with a regular starting berth in the Terek Grozny team.

On Saturday, Mguni, who also played in Cyprus for champions Omonia Nicosia, showed agression and commitment through out the match, and for all his efforts he was not only rewarded with the 88th minute goal, but received a yellow card in the 45th minute.

The match against Krasnodar was Terek's final league match and the Grozny-based club finished the season on position eleven in a league of sixteen competitive teams. With 31 points, Mguni's club is certainly safe from relegation.

Spartak Nal'chik and Tom' Tomsk were not as fortunate, and will be relegated to the lower division, Division One of Russia.

Mguni and his team mates are still competing in the Russian Cup, where Mguni has already scored, in a 2-0 2in over lower division club Torpedo Vladimir and Mguni is expected to play a huge role in the next round to be played against fellow Premier League side Volga who finished 12th on the log.

The Cup match is due to take place on 21st November at  Lokomotiv, Nizhniy Novgorod stadium.

Mguni is one of two senior Zimbabwean players in Europe who have demonstrated that they could make a contribution to Zimbabwe's campaign in the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers, as well as the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The other Eirope-based player who has been in good form this season is FC Vaslui striker Mike Temwanjira whose Romania club has been doing well in the Europa League.

Both Mguni and Temwanjira have had Champions League and Europa League experience in their careers with Omonia Nicosia and Vaslui respectively.
