Mandaza goals help Stars to win trophy

Terrence Mandaza reminded many at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday that he is still the same goal poacher and has lost none of the killer instinct in the box which made him a household name in Botswana only about a season ago, with performances rich with goals in the inaugural OR Tambo Challenge Cup.

The Platinum Stars squad member, who has been content with coming from the bench for Owen da Gama's side so far this season, grabbed goals in the two matches he played on Sunday to guide his club to a memorable brace of victories over giants Mamelodi Sundonws in the semi-finals and then Orlando Pirates in the final to win da Gama's first trophy in many years.

During the semi-final clash against Sundowns, 'Terror' had to rescue Dikwena with a brilliant header, after Mabhuti Khenyeza had given Amasandawana the lead. The Royal Bafokeng-sponsored side then won the match 4-3 via a penalty shoot-out.

During the final, Dikwena tussled with Pirates who also needed the lottery to overcome  Bloemfontein Celtic in the other semi-final.

Stars dominated the Buccaneers in the1st half of the final, and Lebo Ramolesa scored a beauty of a goal in the first half after a great move by the home side, before Mandaza demonstrated awareness of his role in the box, with a cheeky ball control as he sold his marker a dummy before beating Senzo Meyiwa all systems out to score Stars' second goal.

Unfortunately for Terror, he injured himselfin the first half while scoring his second goal of the day, and had to come off after struggling to continue playing in the second half.

Da Gama will be hoping that Mandaza's injury is not serious, as the striker has demonstrated that he is back to the kind of form that saw him win both the Golden Boot and Footballer of the Season awards in Botswana before packing his bags for Stars last season.

Much is expected of the talented striker, but the ABSA premiership has not yet witnessed the best of the man they call Terror in Botswana.

Terror is indeed a menace to any defence in the box. His ball control, dribbling skills and eye for goal sets him apart. It is surprising that he hasn't hit the ground running at Platinum Stars. With the amount of talent he possesses,Terror should be among the best strikers in the ABSA PSL.
