Esperance are Africa"s club Champions!

Tunisian giants Esperance have waited since 1994 to win the most prestigious inter club competition on the African continent, the CAF Champions League Cup, following their 1-0 aggregate win over Wydad Cassablanca of Morocco after two tight legs of the final.

The first leg between the two giants ended 0-0 in Morocco, and a defender, Ghanaian  Harrison Afful had to produce a moment of brilliance in the first half to give the Tunisians a 1-0 second leg victory on Saturday to celebrate their first major trophy since 1994.

Afful was naturally pleased with grabbing the deciding goal of the two legs.

"It wasn't my best game, but I scored and I thank my colleagues for giving me that goal," Afful  said after the match.

"This is a dream come true but the task ahead of us now is very big.

"We thank our fans, because without them we wouldn't achieve anything in football."

The Blood and Gold will proceed to the Club World Cup to be hosted by Japan in December 2011.

At the Club World Cup, Esperance will meet the likes of Barcelona from Europe,  Santos of Brazil who are the South American title holders, Monterrey of Mexico from Concacaf, Asian champions Al Sadd of Qatar and Auckland City from New Zealand, who are the Oceania club champions.

Last year, African representatives TP Mazembe did the continent proud by reaching the final of the competition, where they lost to eventual winners Inter Milan of Italy and Europe.
