Uganda Cranes pockets 78 million fromLG cup

Uganda Cranes finished second in the LG Cup in Marrakech, Morocco on Sunday after Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions beat them to the overall winners’ prize of $60,000 (Shs156m).

The Cranes, who piped the home side 1-0 on Friday, had earlier beaten Sudan 3-2 on penalties. Normal time had ended goalless. They also walked away with $30,000 (Shs78m) as runners-up.

Cranes goalkeeper Dennis Onyango, wearing the armband after captain Simeon Masaba had gone off injured, saved two penalties before stepping forward to score the winning spot-kick.

Godfrey Walusimbi and Isaac Isinde scored the other Cranes penalties, but Moses Oloya, Hamis Kiiza and Emma Okwi missed theirs. Sudan scored two and missed four kicks.
