Zim Under 20 squad for COSAFA tourney named

The Zimbabwe national Under 20 squad set to participate at the Metropolitan COSAFA Under 20 Championship set to take place between 1-10 December has been announced by the Zimbabwe Football Association.

Zifa, perhaps due to financial constraints, missed a great opportunity to blood promising youngsters who are based in England into this squad, preferring to only call Trevor Mutero from the United Kingdom.

Other promising stars like League One 3rd placed side Sheffield Wednesday, 19-year old Cecil Nyoni, League two side Stevenage's reserve team captain and big defender, 18-year old Farai Hallam and Mikaeel White aged 16 of Barnet, are all players who should be given a chance to play for the Young Warriors in future international matches.

Many African nations like Ghana and Nigeria are busy tracking players with Ghanaian and Nigerian roots in Europe and applying for a change of nationality per Fifa regulations. Through suhc moves, their national teams have been strengthened.

The squad announced by coach Taurai Mangwiro has talented youngsters, some with Premiership and First Division experience.

Morris Kadzola plays for Chicken Inn in the Castle Lager PSL, Munyaradzi Muchenje of Highfield United in the First Division, as well as Munyaradzi Chiwara of Gunners in the PSL.

Zambia are the defending champions of the COSAFA Under 20 championships. Zimbabwe's Young Warriors are under pressure to redeem themselves after failing to win the tournament in the past two years.

The squad announced is due to leave for Botswana on 30 November.
