Uganda Super League to introduce reserve League

The Uganda Super League (USL) are considering having Reserve League games played in the same perimetres with the topflight fixtures.

Mujib Kasule, the Fufa vice president in-charge of USL, yesterday confirmed that the Reserve League will start before the commencement of the top flight second round early next year.

"If everything goes according to plan, we could even start as early as December," Kasule said after a meeting involving 14 of the 15 topflight clubs endorsed the idea.

Kasule and Maroons coach Asaph Mwebaze are working out the mechanisms to get started.
All 15 topflight teams will have their reserves play against each other home and away with the winner at the end of the season taking a trophy.

There is no promotion but a team can lose its Reserve League slot if their parent club is relegated. The promoted team takes the place in the reserves.

But where does the reserve side, whose parent club is relegated from the USL, go? "That is the main challenge now," admitted Kasule, "Itís a USL project but that is something we have to address."
