Mapeza takes younger Warriors to CECAFA

Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has picked up eight of the players Beezsports had predicted he would name in his squad for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup to be staged in Tanzania from the 26th November until early December, but more importantly, the Warriors gaffer opted to give a chance to more Under 23 players.

Under 23 players such as Abbas Amidu of Black Mambas, FC Platinum's hitman Donald Ngoma, James Jam of Blue Ribbon, CAPS United's  hugely talented right back Tapiwa Khumbuyani, exciting Gunners striker Leonardo Fiyado, Under 23 goal keepers, Gunners' George Chigova plus Highlanders' goal minder Ariel Sibanda and Tinashe Masika of DC Academy, among others.

Warriors Team Manager for the Cecafa tournament Wellington Mpandare confirmed that the squad is a developmental squad.

"If you look at it most of the players are in the Under-23 set up and there are also others who have played in the senior team before.

"It's an opportunity for the coach to look at other players and probably find options to address some of the problem areas in the national team and I think it could have even be better if the Under-20 players were there, if they were not going to Botswana.

Mpandare further bemoaned the absence of the Dynamos and Motor Action players who are due to take part in a Mbada Diamonds Cup final on Sunday and could not be drafted into the squad due to leave for Dar-es-Salam on Friday.

"It's also unfortunate that Dynamos and Motor Action players could not be considered for this event because they are playing in the Mbada Diamonds Cup final on Sunday," Mpandare said.
