Rwanda shock Zimbabwe third string side

Amavubi of Rwanda, bouyed by their earlier win over hosts Tanzania on Friday, continued with their fairytale story in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup by outclassing the highest ranked team at the tournament, Zimbabwe, beating the Warriors 2-0 at Nyayo Stadium in a Group B match played on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors of Zimbabwe had beaten Djibouti in their first match on Sunday, and went into Tuesday's match leading standings in Group B by virtue of a superior goal difference.

On Tuesday, the Southern African nation, invited to the Cecafa tourney, were undone by a double strike from Meddie Kagere who scored either side of break-time.

The Warriors appeared to be on their way to a second victory after dominating Amavubi early on in the game, but fizzled out after they were punished for slackness at the back by Kagere in the first half.

Zimbabwe are now in a must win match against hosts Tanzania on December 3 in a match they have to win to ensure they compete in the quarter-finals. There is little doubt that the Taifa Stars will beat Djibouti in  a match to be played later today.

Rwanda have now replaced Zimbabwe on top of the standings with 6-points, and have a 100% record in the tournament, on the back of a punishing defence which is yet to concede a goal.
