Spurs in danger of missing out on Europa last 32

English Barclays Premiership Soccer giants Tottenham Hotspurs are staring elimination from Europa League after losing 1-2 at home to PAOK Salonika on Wednesday night.

PAOK raced into a 2-0 lead within the opening thriteen minutes through the 3rd and 13th minutes strikes by Dimitris Salpingidis and Stefanos Athanasiadis respectively.

Luka Modric tried to rally Spurs back later in the first half with a well-taken penalty, but even a late charge by the home side could not save their day.

Spurs had appeals turned down by the referee when Jerman Defoe's last minute strike was ruled off-side.

With the defeat, Spurs are now  sitting on third position with 7 points out of five matches. PAOK Salonika are now on 11 points and have sealed their place in the last 32.

As it stands, Spurs are definitely up against the wall and have to pull all stops to now progress from a tight group that also includes Rubin Kazan, who have loads of Champions League experience under their belts.

Spurs are away to Shamrock Rovers, while already qualified PAOK entertain Rubin, and that game may as well end in a draw, the only result that the Russians need to make it to the knockout stages. Even if Rubin lose in Greece and Spurs fail to score more than six goals, they will still progress.

In other groups, the following teams have progressed; Standard Liege and Hannover from Group B, PSV Eindhoven and Legia Warsaw from Group C, Stoke and Besktas look good in Group E, Athletic Bilbao have made it from Group F,  FC Metalist Kharkiv are through from G, while Club Brugge and Braga appear untouchable in group H. Atletico Madrid  are throgh from I, while Udinese appear to be their partners from that group.

While Schalke are untouchable in J, Maccabi Haifa still have a good fight from Steua Bucharesti and AEK Larnaca.
