Basena scoffs at Simba

Ugandan tactician Moses Basena is enraged that Tanzanian outfit Simba is playing a cat and mouse game with him.

Simba prematurely ended Basena’s two-year contract after only seven months when Tanzanian giants suffered a 1-0 loss to eternal rivals Yanga in October last year.

At the time, Simba were top of the standings in the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League and his sacking was the least expected.

As Basena sought compensation and threatened to go legal, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF)’s legal, ethics and players committee, for the first time, intervened, asking the former URA boss to meet his former employers and settle their differences amicably.

Simba chairman Ismail Aden Rage has also made a plea to Basena, claiming that ’what happened was unavoidable’ as the TFF were pressurising the club to present the coach’s professional qualifications.

"Things were out of our hands," Rage was quoted in the local press as saying.

"TFF claimed that Basena’s qualifications were not worthy of coaching a topflight side like Simba. They refused to give us permission to seek a working permit for him at the Immigration Department."

Rage adds that Simba is ready to offer a new coaching job to sacked coach Basena with either the reserve side or women outfit.

"If Basena feels he has the qualifications for that job, he should apply," he says.
But Basena has scoffed at allegations that he is not good enough.

German trained
"I am German trained," said Basena, who began his coaching career with Coffee in 1995.
"They (Simba) are playing games with me.

"They asked for my papers (read qualifications) when I was here in Uganda for my mother’s burial. All that time they said they were working on my work permit and now they are changing their words."

Basena revealed that coaching the women or reserve side at Simba would be taking him for granted and undermining his ability.

"I still have a valid contract with Simba which should be respected by both parties. I cannot coach their reserve side. Simba is not the only club and I can get employed elsewhere," explained the former Uganda Cranes assistant coach.

Basena first reported the matter in question to Fufa CEO Edgar Watson, who wrote to Simba, but the Tanzanians have never replied to the coach’s pleas.

"I am planning to take the matter to CAF where I believe that justice will prevail. I have to get my compensation."
