ENGLAND: Hughes is new QPR Manager

Mark Hughes has been appointed the new Queens Park Rangers coach, effectively replacing sacked coach Neil Warnock on Tuesday, the club announced.

Former Wales, Blackburn, West Ham and Fulham Manager Hughes was touted as a favourite to succeed Warnock, who had guided QPR in their qualification to the  English Barclays Premier Soccer League this season.

Warnock was sacked on Sunday after the management of the club felt that he had had a string of poor results, which the veteran coach blamed on the team's inability to land the transfer targets he had in mind at the beginning of the season.

Hughes, who has been out of football management for a while ever since he unceremoniously left his post at Fulham, is delighted to be back doing what he loves most.

"It's a great feeling to be back in football and to be manager of QPR," Hughes said in a statement.

"I'm fully aware of the challenge in the short and long term and I am genuinely excited about the ambition of the owners," the 48-year-old added.

"Now the immediate priority is to consolidate our place in the Premier League, but beyond that, the future is very bright and fills me with great enthusiasm."

QPR Chairperson Tony Fernandes  revealed that they opted for Hughes because of his experience in the EBPSL, and that also his personal ambition was key in this appointment.

"Mark has a proven track record in the Premier League, bringing a wealth of experience at both club and international level," Fernandes said.

"His ambitions match those of the board and we are delighted to have him at the helm," Fernandes said.
