The Football Association of Togo and its Malawian counterpart have turned down requests by the Zimbabwe Football Association to play the Warriors on 11 August.

Zim-diaspora reports on-line that the football associations of Togo and Malawi have both turned down an offer to travel to Harare to play the Warriors because they are already booked for the 11th August.

Board member responsible for competitions within ZIFA, Benedict Moyo, has revealed the latest disappointing, but expected developments. ZIFA left it late to arrange a friendly match on this date set aside by FIFA for such matches.

“They (Togo and Malawi) said they found other teams to play on the same date.

" I think they were looking for better ranked teams and you can’t begrudge them for that.

"But we have got plans for the August 11 date and we intend to bring foreign-based players for the match if they are selected by the coach,” Moyo told the Zimdiaspora.com website.

The Zimbabwean Warriors last played a competitive match involving foreign-based players on 2 June in a friendly match against Brazil, losing that match 0-3. The other hastily arranged World Cup practise match against Japan which ended 0-0 in George only involved locally-based players.

Norman Mapeza is desperate to get a competitive practise match where he can try out some combinations. He will have to work with the bulk of the Warriors in South Africa and some from Europe and other parts of the world such as the USA and Qatar.
