FC Platinum thrash Green Mamba 4-2

Gumbo guided FC Platinum to a 4-2 crushing of Green Mamba

Zimbabwe's  2012 representatives and CAF Champions League debutants FC Platinum produced a  second half inspired performance to cocme from behind twice and emerge 4-2 winners away in Swaziland.

All  six goals in this CAFChampions League preliminary round came in the second half.

It was the home side that drew first blood, scoring in the 50th minute. Exactly ten minutes later (in the 60th minute), the Zimbabwean Castle  Lager Premier Soccer League 2011 runners up equalised.

Green Mamba went back ahead in the 65th minute, taking a lead of 2-1.

The Kugona kunenge kudada boys never stopped fighting,and were rewarded ten minutes later again as they equalised. It was 2-2 on the 70th minute.

Rahman Gumbo's boys were fired up and were to add two more goals within two ten minute spells. In fact all four goals scored by the Platinum miners  were  seperated by ten minutes, and were scored within the final 30 minutes.

FC Platinum will take a healthy 4-2 lead into the second leg of thhis preliminary round to be played at Mandava Stadium within two weeks. 

While complacency is  never to be encouraged in the beautiful game of football whose history is replete with surprises, the Zimbabweans haveone foot into the next round where  their opposition is as tough as they come, Al Merreikh of Sudan, seasoned Champions Leaguecampaigners.

FC Platinum are  debutants  in the Champions League,but they do not lack internationalexperience in their squad. 

The so called money-bags of Zimbabwean football have players such as Charles Sibanda, Daniel Veremu, Tafadzwa Dube, Ali Sadiki, Allan Gahadzikwa, Qadr Amini, Donald Gumbo, Gilbert Banda, among others who have tasted international football with their previous clubs in the Champions League or with the Warriors in the CHAN qualifying matches as well as the 2009 and 2011 finals.
