Warriors slowly trickle into camp

BHASERA arriving home on Wednesday for Burundi tie camp

The Zimbabwe national senior soccer team sqaud members called for the 2013 Africa Cup of National Cup qualifier against Burundi on 29 February have slowly started arriving for camp.

News from Harare is that only three foreign-based players are already in town for the mid-week tie. Kaizer Chiefs' new signing Abbas Amidu, Botswana B-Mobile League duo of Mandla Sibanda and Arnold Chaka arrived over the weekend.

The Herald newspaper has reported that England-based defender Onismor Bhasera is on his way to Harare and will be flying home from Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon. He might be arriving with the same place which will be bring Sweden-based Archieford Gutu home in the afternoon today.

Russia-based Musa Mguni and Poland giants Legia Warsaw's  Dickson Choto are expected to arrive in Harare on Thursday afternoon.

Even though the Herald report suggests that the majority of South African-based players is expcetd to touch-base during this week, it is difficult to see how how that is possible given that players like Tapuwa Kapini, Carlington Nyadombo and Tinashe Nengomasha are all regulars and key players for their respective clubs who have assignments over the weekend.

Kapini and Nyadombo are expected to turn out for their club, Durban-based Amazulu in a crucial home fixture against second-placed Supersport United at Moses Mabhida Stadium only on Sunday. It is highly unlikely that the club will release key players given the fact that Fif rules can only compel a club to do so for a mid-week match only two days before the tie.

The same could apply for Tinashe Nengomasha and Esrom Nyadoro whose clubs have fixtures. Third-placed Chiefs will be playing Bidvest Wits on Sunday, while log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns have a date away from home against tough opponents Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

In all likelihood, four players from the ABSA Premiership in SA are likely to only join camp by Sunday night, hours before the team departs for Burundi.

Apparently Knowledge Musona and Vusa Nyoni whose clubs have fixtures over the weekend will be flying directly to Bujumbura from their bases, something reminiscent of the challenges encunters by Norman Mapeza's troops in their final 2012 qualifier against Cape Verde.

It is not clear when the other players like Terrence Mandaza of Platinum Stars in SA, Noel Kaseke of Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and Quincy Antipas of SonderjyskE in Denmaark are expected to arrive for camp.

It does appear however that Mandaza could arrive on time given the fact that Stars will only play against Pirates tonight, and is ruled out of the 26th February encounter against Celtic by virtue of his international duties with Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

The good thing is that at least Rahman Gumbo is guaranteed some workout with the rest who will be in Harare latest by Friday.
