Bhasera"s club Plymouth started off on a winning note in League one

Beezsports introduces a new feature, World Leagues round-up which is set to become a permanent Monday feature for the rest of the 2010/2011 season.

For a start, this week's edition will focus mainly on top-flight leagues in countries where Zimbabwean and South African players ply their trade. The focus of future features however will shift to top world leagues with African players, while the special focus on Zimbabwean and South African soccer players will be retained somehow.

Belgian Jupiler League

A good number of Zimbabwean and South African players have featured in the first two games of the new season of the Jupiler League, Belgium's topflight league.

Zimbabwean internationals Vusa Nyoni and Honour Gombami's Cercle Brugge drew away at Germinal Beerschot in a league match over the weekend.  Cephas Chimedza's St Truiden was at the wrong end of a 4-1 hammering by Belgian giants Club Brugge early this weekend. South African-born players Elrio van Herden and Masilo Modubi's  Westerlo defeated AS Eupen 1-0. Bafana Bafana World Cup squad member Anele Ngcongca has been enjoying great results with his team KRC Genk who walloped Gent 4-1. Ngcongca has also been celebrating his team's progression in the Uefa Europa League after claiming the scalp of Inter Turku of Berlarus in the qualifying round. The new season hasn't been so rosy for Lance Davids whose club Lierse got a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Standard Liege.

Warriors midfield hopeful Noel Kaseke's Omonia Nicosia, who are the reigning Cypriot Champions, needed a penalty-shoot-out to overcome the challenge of Nasief Morris of South Africa's new team Apollon in the Super Cup. The match had remained tied 1-1 at full time.

Quincy Antipas' HG Koge only managed a 1-1 draw in their opening match of new life in the Danish  Viasat Sport Divisionen, a division lower than the Danish topfligh from where the Zimbabwe international's club was relegated at the end of lat season.

Onismor Bhasera's pay masters in England, League One side Plymouth Argyle started off their campaign for an immediate return to the Championship on a bright note. Plymouth won crucial points away at favourites Southampton on Saturday after beating the home side 1-0. During the off-season, Plymouth rejected overtures from some Championship clubs to lure Bhasera back to England's second tier division.

Meanwhile, in the season-opening Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday between Chelsea and Manchester United on Saturday, the Red Devils prevailed over the Blues 3-1. Salomon Kalou, Didier Drogba (Ivory Cost) and Michael Essien (Ghana) all featured for English champions Chelsea albeit in a losing cause. Essien was not called up by Ghana for the friendly against Bafana on Wednesday in South Africa because he has just returned from injury. Drogba was left out of the Ivory Coast squad for the friendly against Italy for similar reasons.

In the meantime, there is no news yet regarding Benjani Mwaruwari's hunt for a club in England. The Zimbabwean captain was left clubless after he was off-loaded by Manchester City following an unfruitful loan spell at Sunderland during the second half of last season.

In the French Ligue 2, Bolougne for whom Zimbabwean midfielder Ovidy Karuru plays, laboured to a 1-1 draw at home to Clermont Foot. The Zimbabwean midfielder was only introduced in the second half.

The French Ligue 1 present intriguing results. Reigning champions Marseille started off their title defence at newly promoted Caen who surprised all and sundry by beating the champions 2-1 away. It was a losing start for Abedi Pele Ayew's boys Andre and Jordan Ayew. Two Africans at Rennes, Guinea's Ismael Bangoura and Asamoah Gyan of Ghana saw their club draw with Lille 1-1 at home. Bangoura scored in Rennes' draw.

Bafana Bafana left back Tshepo Masilela suffered the agony of seeing his club Maccabi Haifa being eliminated from the Europa League by Dinamo Minsk on a 3-2 aggregate.

Bevan Fransman's Hapoel Tel Aviv qualified for the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday night following their 3-2 aggregate win over Aktobe in Israel. Fransman has been called for Bafana'sfriendly match against Ghana tomorrow.

Zimbabwean Costa Nhamoinesu's topflight club Zaglabie Lubin forced a 1-1 draw at Korona Lielce over the weekend, as the Polish topflight season kicked off.

Dickson Choto and Takesure Chinyama's Legia played a high profile friendly match against Arsenal in a high-scoring match which ended 6-5 in favour of the visiting English Premieship side. The score sounded like a penalty lottery, but it was a result from open play. Choto was conspicous by his absence from the team sheet, while Chinyama only entered the field in the 66th minute.

Meanwhile in the Polish Liga 1, Ploand's second tier league, Clement Matawu's Podbeskidzie Bielsko Biala convincingly won their home match 2-0 against Polkowice.

The Liga 1, Romania's topflight league, started off much earlier than other European leagues. Mike Temwanjira's FC Vaslui, like all other teams in the league, have played three games thus far, managing a first loss, followed by two draws. On Friday 6th August, Vaslui played to a 1-1 draw away at Universitatea Clui. The 28 year-old is yet to find the net. Its early days yet, Mbozha has been Vaslui's important striker for years now, scoring crucial goal in their European campaigns in the past few years.

May Mahlangu of South Africa's Helsingborgs drew 3-3 with Djurgardens over the weekend.

Gangly Zimbabwean striker Musa Mguni's Metarlugh Donetsky lost 1-0 away at Dynamo Kiev over the weekend.

Two Zimbabweans had contrasting fortunes over the weekend in the Major League Soccer of the USA. Mkhokheli Dube's New England Revolution beat Washington DC 1-0 at home, while Joseph Ngwenya's Houston Dynamo endured a 0-2 loss away at Seattle Sounder.
